Four quarters against LSU stands in the way of college football appearance
At the beginning of the year, I was thinking and hoping for an 8-4 season. I would have taken that and thought it would have been a decent year considering the schedule with a new quarterback and new offensive coordinator.
So now that the Sooners are 9-2, I should be satisfied, right?
Of course not, because now I, along with I assume everyone else, want more.
Oklahoma beat Missouri, again with a stifling defense that shut down the number running back in the country. The offense did just enough with one or two big plays to put up 17 points and give the defense all that it needed and more.
You really can’t say enough about the defense Venables has constructed this year. Despite our mediocre offense, the defense that continues to show up and show out week after week, means should we get in the playoffs, we will be able to hang with anyone in the country.
But before we get ahead of ourselves, another set of Tigers awaits Saturday afternoon when the Bayou Bengals of LSU come to Norman in the regular season finale. Win and your in. Simple as that. And it will be all the sweeter if we can do it against Louisiana State and their insufferable fan base. They are known far and wide for having the worst fans in college football.
The Sooners are catching a Tiger team full of talent, but in disarray. Having fired head coach Brian Kelley mid-season after losing back-to-back games against Vandy and Texas A&M.
Starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier suffered a torso injury in fall camp and hasn’t been the same since. He was eventually benched against Alabama and hasn’t played the past two games. He is currently listed as doubtful for this Saturday.
Without him, the Tigers beat Arkansas and edged by Western Kentucky, both by only three points and both at home. But again, they have talent and a win against the likes of Oklahoma would cure a lot of wounds in Baton Rouge.
The Sooners will need to continue their dominance on defense and try and find more consistency on offense to pull out this victory on Senior Day. The Worry Meter is at 75% this week.
A home playoff game awaits this holiday season if the Sooners can take care of business Saturday. With all that being said…BOOMER!!!
