Dave: Sooners surpass expectations, but we want more

by

At the beginning of the year, I was thinking and hoping for an 8-4 season. I would have taken that and thought it would have been a decent year considering the schedule with a new quarterback and new offensive coordinator.

So now that the Sooners are 9-2, I should be satisfied, right?

Of course not, because now I, along with I assume everyone else, want more.

Oklahoma beat Missouri, again with a stifling defense that shut down the number running back in the country. The offense did just enough with one or two big plays to put up 17 points and give the defense all that it needed and more.

You really can’t say enough about the defense Venables has constructed this year. Despite our mediocre offense, the defense that continues to show up and show out week after week, means should we get in the playoffs, we will be able to hang with anyone in the country.

Playoff rankings are hooey, Big 12 chances riding on the Sooners in Waco

The Sooners did what they needed to do against the Cyclones last Saturday night. Despite a lackluster 2nd quarter they torched Iowa St. 52-16. The offensive hummed along and the defense was stout.

Now we move on to bigger and hopefully better things.

But before we do, let me share a few thoughts I have about the week two Playoff Committee Rankings. What a load of horsesh!t. Look, I realize the rankings mean nothing until the final week, but some of the stuff coming out of this committee is just laughable.

And while it is very rare for me to say anything in defense of our little brother pokie state, they are getting the shaft. They have a better win than any win from Stanford, Iowa, Notre Dame or Baylor. And all those teams are ranked ahead of them. And two of them have LOST already. osu is UNDEFEATED.

And if that wasn’t crazy enough, this is what the committee chairman Jeff Long said when asked if Stanford’s high ranking was because they were being given somewhat of a pass on their loss to Northwestern because it was played at 9am Pacific Time. “Absolutely,” Long said. “Yeah, I think that it’s a significant thing.”…..What the actually f$&k!!!
