Sooners must stay sharp and focused: on TCU

Sooner Magic struck early and won over the Luck of the Irish last Saturday in South Bend exercising some ghosts of the past in the process.

The “Magic” came in the form of back to back interceptions off the Irish resulting in a 14 point lead with only 3 minutes gone in the game. No doubt that was a big factor in the contest, but to me the more exciting part was the play of both our offensive and defensive lines.

The defense harassed Rees all day resulting in the aforementioned interceptions and poor throws throughout the game. He was never comfortable and it showed.

Even more impressive was the offensive line. Going up against two All-Americans, one of which might be the best defensive lineman in college football, Oklahoma rushed for over 200 yards. Against the same team we only got 15 yards against last year, at home.

Sooners have to fight lucky Irish officiating too

After the Tulsa game I think we can safely say that the Trevor Knight experiment, barring injury or graduation, is over.

I don’t blame the coaching staff for trying. After Johnny “Hancock” Manziel burst on the scene last year I’m sure many a coaching staff were on the look out for the next mobile waterbug to turn loose on unsuspecting defenses.

DAVES-LOGO-copyHowever after seeing Knight and Bell in action, it’s hard to believe Knight showed so much more in pre-season as to convince the coaches that he was the one over Bell. Maybe it’s true some players are great in practice but it just doesn’t click on Saturdays. And that’s not to say it wouldn’t eventually click for Knight, but after Bell’s performance, I don’t expect Knight back under center unless Bell goes down or in a special package for one or two plays

Dave is cautiously optimistic, but watch out for WVU

The win last Saturday over Louisiana-Monroe was a really good start to what may be a resurgence in Oklahoma football.

I know it sounds funny that a program who won a share of the Big XII Championship last year needs a resurgence, but it does. With a program like Oklahoma you are expected to compete for a National Title almost every year. Not just a league title. League titles should almost be a given.

But since the 2008 National Title game OU has not been a factor in the National Title discussion, at least not deep into the year. They fell into complacency in many areas. Stoops recognized this and cleaned house. Several coaches lost their jobs to make way for new blood to hopefully bring back a hungry and aggressive program that wants more than just a share of a league title.

I think we may have seen the beginnings of that knew attitude last Saturday.
