Sooners must stay sharp and focused: on TCU

by

DAVES-LOGO-copySooner Magic struck early and won over the Luck of the Irish last Saturday in South Bend exercising some ghosts of the past in the process.

The “Magic” came in the form of back to back interceptions off the Irish resulting in a 14 point lead with only 3 minutes gone in the game.  No doubt that was a big factor in the contest, but to me the more exciting part was the play of both our offensive and defensive lines.

The defense harassed Rees all day resulting in the aforementioned interceptions and poor throws throughout the game.  He was never comfortable and it showed.

One week after Notre Dame and one week before Texas.  Yep, that’s a trap if ever there was one

Even more impressive was the offensive line.  Going up against two All-Americans, one of which might be the best defensive lineman in college football,  Oklahoma rushed for over 200 yards.  Against the same team we only got 15 yards against last year, at home.

Add to that a steady performance from the Dozer and a series of relief pitching by the Knight Rider, and the Sooners are on a roll.  However, (you knew there would be an however) they need to keep their foot on the gas as TCU comes to Norman Saturday night for a classic trap game.

One week after Notre Dame and one week before Texas.  Yep, that’s a trap if ever there was one.

TCU is solid and I think better than their 2-2 record would indicate, losing to LSU to start the season and getting absolutely hosed by the officiating in Lubbock.  Boykin is mobile and can cause the Sooners fits.  And the TCU defense ranks right behind Notre Dame as the second best defense we will see all year.

This is no time for the team to be basking in the post Notre Dame glory or looking ahead to the Red River Beatdown.  They need to stay just as sharp and focused as when they walked into South Bend.  Otherwise all this talk of conference titles and beyond will go down the tubes.

As such the worry meter is hovering around 75% this week.  The Sooners just need to take care of the business directly in front of them.  Let everyone else think of the past and worry about the future.

With all that being said….BOOMER!!  — Dave
