Dave: Time for some Sooner Magic

by

Red River Rivalry would turn the season around for the Sooners

Even though Georgia scored 41 points, the defense once again played well enough to win that game. They held the Bulldog offense to almost 200 yards below their season average, and Georgia only converted on 3 of 12 third downs.

But as has been the case almost all year, once the defense got off the field, the offense did nothing to capitalize.

It’s like a broken record at this point. There were some flashes.

Mateer found tight end Rocky Beers and wide receiver Isiah Satenga often leading to a combined stat line of 165 yards on 16 catches with a touchdown between them. But it was all for naught as the Sooner quarterback once again was careless with the rock turning it over 3 times including an 85-yard scoop and score when the ball inexplicably slipped out of his hand as he wound up to pass.

Having a terrible offensive line is making it worse. Which does not bode well for the trip across the Red River

Add a fourth turnover by Beers along with a once again non-existent run game and the Sooners didn’t stand a chance, even with one of the best defenses in the country.

Mateer has all the physical tools in the world. He can make all the throws and is a decent runner. But he has shown he can’t read the field, and I think his confidence is shot.

Having a terrible offensive line is making it worse. Which does not bode well for the trip across the Red River this Saturday to face the number one team in the nation. texas….man I hate those bastards.

After coming alive in the second half of the Ohio State game to escape with a victory at home and then squeaking by Tennessee in Neyland stadium, you regrettably have to give them their due. They can be up and down on offense, but all they have done is win. And that’s all that counts.

An Oklahoma win against the number one longhorns would turn around a so far disastrous season. For Brent Venables, it would also buy a lot of grace with Sooner fans and the administration. The head coach longevity at the University of Oklahoma is based on two metrics. Championships and your record against texas.

Since Venables has been in charge, there have been no championships of any kind and his record against texas is an anemic 1 win against 3 loses.

I want Brent to succeed as I would want any Sooner coach to succeed. Even more so because I think he is genuinely a good person
who wants the best for the program and his players. But the promise of a bright future after a College Football Playoff appearance in year four, so far has not carried over to year five.

You throw out records in rivalry games. However, Oklahoma will most likely need a little help in the form of turnovers and mistakes by texas to take back the Golden Hat this year.

A healthy dose of Sooner Magic wouldn’t hurt either. Once again, the Worry Meter is spiking at 90% this week. For those making the journey south, have a corny dog for me. With all the being said…BOOMER!!!
