Sad to report that Big Tex, the icon for the Texas State Fair for 60 years, went up in smoke this morning from an apparent electrical fire.
The metal and cloth structure which greets fairgoers with his “Welcome to the Texas State Fair” caught fire and was destroyed this morning.
No one was injured in the blaze, but state fair concessionaires got an idea for next year: Fried Big Tex.
Fair officials said they will rebuild Big Tex and make him bigger and stronger.
So, for the Red River Rivalry of 2013, welcome the Bionic Big Tex.
