Dave: Run game key to Texas loss, OU’s success in remaining games

by

Road trip to Columbia, SC is OU’s most winnable game here on out

Extremely disappointed in the outcome of the game against texas.

Going in, I thought it could go either way because texas has a lot of talent, and their two loses only made them more dangerous as they would be desperate. I thought it would probably come down to
who had the ball last.

Instead, the Sooner offense turned in their worst showing of the year and wasted another strong performance by the defense. They have now not touched the endzone against the longhorns in two full games. Let that sink in.

The identity of this Oklahoma team is built on defense. And if there is one thing a defensive minded team needs out of the offense, it’s a running game

Whether it’s fair or not, the head coaching job at Oklahoma is in large part judged on how you fare against texas. Venables knows this. And four years in, it has not been good.

We can argue that Mateer should not have been rushed into this game, Hawkins Jr. would
have given us a better chance etc.. etc..

But that would be ignoring the glaringly obvious. And we have seen it all year. Oklahoma really has no rushing attack to speak of. The better teams in this league will take advantage of that just like texas did.

The identity of this Oklahoma team is built on defense. And if there is one thing a defensive minded team needs out of the offense, it’s a running game.

I don’t know if it’s injuries, coaching or something else. But until they figure that out, it might be a long year.

The Sooners try to get back on the winning track this Saturday in Columbia, South Carolina against the Gamecocks. They are 3-3 on the season but have played tough and any remaining game on the schedule is going to be a battle.

That being said, this might be the most winnable game left on the schedule. The stakes and expectations are still high for this year. That’s why the Worry Meter is again spiking at 90%.

Everything is still on the table for the Sooners. Can they take it? With all that being said…BOOMER!!!
