OU-Michigan outcome has bearing on Venables’ security
OK. A win. The scrimmage is over. We looked great. Everything clicked in the multitudes’ satisfaction. There is a solid glimmer that things are on the upswing in the land of the Sooner Schooner.
Cecil Samara is smiling along with everyone else.
There is hope. There is joy.
And Michigan awaits only a few days away.
Nerves abound. Determination and hope grows. An OU win against the blue and gold will raise our Sooners’ status, perhaps to the top ten. When was the last time that happened?
If the Sooners win, it won’t just be a victory. It will be a statement.
However, Michigan isn’t going to be easy and anyone who thinks it will be should immediately see a shrink.
Yes, John Mateer is the real deal. That young man can flat out ball — but again — weak sister number 1 isn’t the Blue and Gold of the Wolverines.
Yet, there is certainly a magnitude of hope rising across the land of the Crimson and Cream that has been absent for far too long. Yes, it is justified. Yes, the team, coaches and fans are going to be hyped up like it’s Texas or Ohio State. It’s going to be beyond loud. Yes, it’s going to get nasty on the field and in the stands.

As my departed brother, H. Wayne Blind Lemon Singleterry used to say in big games: Michigan, if you had a mother she would hate your (cursing deleted) guts.
For both squads this is a big test so early on.
If the Sooners win, it won’t just be a victory. It will be a statement.
History reveals that we faced off against the Wolverines the last time in the 1976 Orange Bowl. The Sooners whipped the Wolf pups 14-6. My addled brain tells me I was there. Of course that might have just been the liquor and other stuff.
Saturday could well be a repeat, with the win going to either squad.
OU’s offense is likely to be the game changer/maker. Mateer is the real deal throwing to people who can catch and run. That’s the foundation for a win.
The Oklahoma defense will have to play Teddy Lehman, Brian Bosworth madmen-like to stop those Big 10 blue boys.
If they do, it’s top 10 in Sunday afternoon’s top 25.
A close loss won’t be the end of the world, but it would mean the revamped Sooners aren’t there yet. A win and Coach Venables gets a raise and a stronger life-line of security.
