In a season to forget, the pressure this week is on Texas

by

As if 2020 couldn’t get any worse, we can’t even rely on our Sooners to brighten the landscape this year.

Too young, too inexperienced, too…something.

First loss to Iowa St. in Ames, in 60 years.  First back to back losses since 1999.  I guess if you were going to pick a year to stink while you rebuild, 2020 would be the year.

Saturday night’s game highlighted another glaring issue with the defense, as if another one was needed.

Our defensive backs are significantly shorter than the wide receivers and tight ends that they are going up against.  So they can have great coverage, but if they are constantly just being out jumped by their opponent, it won’t matter.

Recruiting of taller defensive backs has been of emphasis.  Hope help gets here sooner rather than later.  The offense put up 30 points, but that couldn’t make up for a once again porous defense and another special teams lapse that set up Iowa St. at OU’s 13 yard line right after the Sooners had just taken the lead in the 4th quarter.

All momentum had swung to the Cyclones and the writing was on the wall.

Although I would have liked to have seen what OU could have done on their last drive had the officials (after calling pass interference the whole game if someone breathed on a receiver) called the blatant holding of Rambo’s jersey for 5 yards that resulted in Rattler’s interception to end the game.

So a season to forget continues on with the annual Red River Showdown, Shootout, Rivalry…whatever you want to call it, at the Cotton Bowl this Saturday morning.

Limited crowd and no Texas State Fair.

texas…man I hate those bastards

I don’t really know what’s going to happen this weekend.  Oklahoma comes in at 1-2 and texas is one game better at 2-1.

Had Tech been able to recover an onside kick, texas would be 1-2 as well.  The horns have had 87 points scored against them in two Big 12 games.  So they aren’t doing any better than OU on the defensive side of the ball at this point.

You would probably have to give the edge to the shorthorns in this game as they have more experience on the offensive side of the ball.

If (Herman) can’t beat this OU team in this the fourth or fifth year of texas being “back”, when can he?

But anything can happen when these two meet.  Wouldn’t be surprised if either team won in a blow out or in a squeaker.

I will say that I think more pressure is on texas to win this thing than OU.  Herman has 15 starters returning this year and a senior quarterback who is getting Heisman talk.

If he can’t beat this OU team in this the fourth or fifth year of texas being “back”, when can he?

Horn donors already have Urban Meyer on speed dial.

So with that I am putting the Worry Meter at 95% this week.  Beat texas and salvage the season.

With all that being said….BOOMER!!
