Fixing one thing won’t be enough for Sooners
Oh no, we suck again. I know that isn’t very “true fan”-like.
However, I’ve pulled for Oklahoma since I was a little kid. Graduated from the University of Oklahoma, and I’m a 27 year football season ticket holder. I get to vent every once in a while.
The offense is broken. It just is. And who knows if they can fix it in time to salvage the season.
To top it all off David Stone, perhaps our best player on defense, has an injured knee. Listed as questionable the last time I saw, he at least will be hampered if he plays.
No problem though. We only play the number 1 and number 2 teams in the nation away from home the next couple of weeks.
(Are you picking up on my sarcasm here? You should be because I’m laying it on pretty thick).
There are multiple opinions as to why the Sooners can’t find the end zone. Is it all Mateer? How about Arbuckle?
And what about that offensive line and their coach Bedenbaugh?
I forgot to mention him in last week’s list of possible culprits. Has he gotten too complacent in this his 14th season in that position?
It was pointed out on sports radio this week Venables wanted a more ground it out run the ball time of possession offense this year to compete better with SEC defenses. Makes sense.
But that’s not what Arbuckle is. At Washington State he ran QB heavy air raid out of the shotgun. Now he’s being asked to change all that to an under center ground and pound 13 personnel offense. That’s not his bag.
Arbuckle and Mateer were a package deal. So did Oklahoma want Mateer so bad, they took Arbuckle hoping he could change?
In the end it’s probably a little of all these things that are plaguing Oklahoma so far after three games.
Fixing just one of these won’t cut it. But Georgia doesn’t give a flip about our problems. They will be ready to play and try and beat us as badly as possible.
What can I say about the Bulldogs? Ranked 2nd in the nation, Number 1 offense in the SEC, number 3 defense in the SEC.
Playing on their home field.
About as solid a team as they come.
So that, along with all our problems so far this season, has the Worry Meter at an all time high of 99.8%. It’s not 100% because the only things certain in life are death and taxes.
I’ll be the first one to praise the Sooners and say I was wrong if they somehow pull this one out.
But it just doesn’t seem to be in the cards. With all that being said…BOOMER!!!
