Let’s have no more ‘home cookin’ in Ann Arbor
Oklahoma mostly did what it was supposed to do against an outmanned UTEP team last Friday night. With a final score of 51-0, there’s not much to be unhappy about.
I would have liked to see them rush the ball more effectively. The Sooners got good push with 3 and 4 yard gains. But they were never able to pop that big run. It was great to see some tight end game, especially Rocky Beers and his hurdle touchdown.
I’m curious as to the absence of an up-tempo offense. Oklahoma seems to be going with a more under-center style this year. Which I get as an under-center power run offense would, I believe, complement our dominate defense.
However, I assume the game plan was plain as plain could be and we should expect to see much more from both sides of the ball this Saturday in Ann Arbor.
Anyone have the time? Jeez, I crack myself up… Seriously though, what a joke.
Whether it was done intentionally (it probably was) or not, what a slap in the face to the game and those kids at Western
Michigan. They won that game by out playing Michigan on both sides of the ball. And it was stolen from them.
In this age of instant replay and 50 camera angles on every play, they still manage to screw people.
Of course, corruption and shady practices are inherent with billions of dollars spent on TV deals and who knows how much more on sports gambling nationwide.
Not sure what if any effect this may have on the game this Saturday. Michigan already has plenty of motivation to beat the Sooners after having lost to them last year. And they will surely want to show everyone they have better game than what they rolled out against the Broncos.
Not that Western Michigan was a terrible team. They won the MAC and 10 games last season. But that was the MAC.
The Sooner’s are a whole different animal. Oklahoma’s defense will create havoc against the Michigan offense. Wolverine quarterback Brian Underwood is still erratic under pressure, so I expect the Sooners to be relentless with the pass rush. Make him
make mistakes.
But this is a double-edged sword as he can hurt you with his feet on the scramble. Still, it would surprise me if Michigan could score more than 13 to 17 points.
The issue will be can our own offense top that? Michigan’s defense is solid and will be after Mateer just as much as we will be after Underwood. We will need to be able to run the ball this Saturday to have success. I can easily see this being a low scoring affair that might hinge on a turnover here or one big play there.
This is a big early season game (in the Big House) for both teams, and the Worry Meter is reflecting the gravity of the situation at 80% this week. If both teams play to their potential, the Sooners win this one. But home cooking can lead to an upset stomach. Ask Western Michigan about their latest dining experience.
