Sooners pop Ball State 62-6; on to Texas

by

Ball State began with their own “trickeration” — recovering an onside kick to start the game.

It resulted in zero points for them.

It began one of many three-and-outs for the Cardinals and an onslaught of points for the Sooners, once they got possession. Final Score: Oklahoma 62, Ball State 6.

The game capped a week of fans and players ruminating over how disappointing the Sooners’ 38-28 win at home against Missouri was the previous week.

“The guys were aware that the entire week before wasn’t as good as it has been,” coach Bob Stoops said.

“But, they came out this week and really had a lot of energy and focus. I’m very pleased with the way they played.”

Hunter, Alex answer your Q’s about Ball State

Ball State brings their 3-1 football team to Norman to take on the No. 1 (or No. 2 depending on your favorite poll) for a 6 pm game on Saturday. This is the first time Ball State has played Oklahoma.

So, understandably, most Sooner fans know little about them.

Here are the answers to the key questions about Ball State, courtesy of Soonerguys Hunter and Alex:

Q: Just where is Ball State University?

Hunter: It’s in Ohio.
Alex: Yes, it’s in Ohio. Or it might be Illinois. One of those states up there.
(Answer: Municie, Indiana).

Q: What is Ball State’s mascot?

Hunter: It’s a bird. Some bird. A falcon, I think.
Alex: Cardinals. I say that because I know I’m right. David Letterman is an alum and he wears that Cardinals cap.
(Answer: Charlie Cardinal)

Dave: Big win done, now time for revenge

I love it when I’m wrong! Oklahoma went out last week and proved that they can win a big game on the road against a quality opponent. The monkey is off the back.

And, allow me to respond to the two biggest excuses that Florida State fans have come up with as to why they lost the game.

Excuse 1: Had E.J. Manuel not gotten hurt, FSU wins. Ridiculous. Manuel left the game late in the 3rd quarter.

That means he played in well over half the game. And in that time he lead his team to 3 points. A whopping 3 points. His backup played in less than half the game and got 10 points.

And, oh by the way, when he ran back on the sidelines in the fourth quarter? The team doctors had given him the ok to go back in the game.
