Dave: OU and ISU — the two underachievers of the Big 12

After the Baylor game, I asked my brother and sister in a text what their thoughts were.

My brother’s reply was “We are what they thought we were.” And my sister’s was “This team has so much talent but continues to under achieve.”

I’m tempted to just end this article right here and say the Worry Meter is at 90% this week and have a good day. I think those two replies sum up Oklahoma’s season perfectly.

We as fans didn’t want to admit it, but 9-0 was fool’s gold. The signs were right there in front of us.

Close calls against several mediocre to bad teams. Teams Oklahoma were expected to bury at the start of the season.

Dave: Huskers bring a mobile QB to town to test the Sooners D

At the tailgate before the Western Carolina game, someone asked the group what did we expect to learn from the game that night.

My good buddy Mike said, “If we learn anything at all, it won’t be good.”

And he was absolutely right. There really is nothing to be learned from a 76-0 beat down in a really unfair contest. The only thing we could have learned would have been really bad. That might have been the worst team to visit Owen Field in the past 25 years.

Dave: No worry this week, but OU must learn to win 2nd half

That horrible screeching noise you heard last Saturday was the Sooners slamming the breaks on all that National Title talk that was so prevalent in the off season. 

The emergency brake was also yanked on Spencer Rattler’s Heisman campaign for good measure. 

Now I know it was just one game.  And my good friend Mike told me not to panic just yet.  They were mostly correctable mistakes.  And he is probably right. 

But if the Sooners really want to be considered for the big trophy at the end of the season, stuff needs to get real.  Like right now.
