Dave: ‘Texas. Man, I hate those bastards’

In this day and age of parity in college football, it is almost impossible to win them all.

That certainly was the case for several teams last Saturday. Half the top 10 was beaten including four of the top six.

That was the only solace to be taken after the Sooners let one slip away against TCU. Don’t get me wrong. Give the Horned Frogs credit. They played about as well as they could and won fair and square.

But did OU play their “A” game? Not even close. That to me is what made the loss so frustrating. There was plenty of blame to go around. Offense, defense, and coaching. Everyone had a hand in it.

But if I was forced to pick on someone, it has to be Offensive Coordinator Josh Heupel. As bad as the defense was, they only gave up 7 points in the second half. And toward the end of the game they created turnovers and came up defensive stands to give the offense the ball several times when one score puts OU ahead. But for some reason, Josh panicked.

OU vs TCU: Knight’s game to step up

One man goes down, another steps up. And in this case he stepped up in a major way.

Samaje Perine was the hero with a herculian effort against the Mountaineers. When you read the stats for Perine it’s hard not to get excited at what the future may hold for the true freshman from Pflugerville, Texas. 244 yards and 4 touchdowns. And no, that’s not stats from the last time you hooked up Playstation.

Perine and the offensive line just took it too West Virginia and never let up. This OU offense is quickly being defined by its punishing offensive line and running game. And it’s a good thing too. The air attack is still trying to find itself. Knight still has trouble looking past his primary target and can have trouble with his accuracy.

OU v Tennessee re-cap

Defense wins championships. But the offense sure needs to help out.
When the offense came out to receive the ball to start the third quarter and promptly drove the field for a touchdown I thought, ok here we go. The route is on.

Unfortunately that was not the case. After that first drive of the second half, the offense pretty much went to lunch. Now my hope is that Stoops told Heupel to throttle back the rest of the night.

This game is in the bag. Don’t show anything else that could give future opponents a leg up in game planning. The defense will take it home. And this may very well be the case. The defense was in control with a 17 point lead.
