The 2018 season begins with eggs and bacon at Owen Field, with a new quarterback a revamped defense and returning stars at running back, offensive line and wide receiver.

But first you kneed to know this: The powers that be have imposed a new security requirement for this season. First, everyone goes through a metal detector. Second, only transparent bags are allowed. See the new rules here.

Now, looking to the game — what should we watch for?

From Florida Atlantic:

No. 5 RB Devin Singletary.  5’9″, 200 pounds. Third-team All America in 2017. Rushed for 1,920 yards and 32 TDs. Is considered a Heisman candidate.

Devin Singletary

No. 2 LB Azeez Al-Shaair, senior. 6’2″, 228 pounds. All conference (Conference USA) last year, and conference defensive player of the year. Had 13 tackles in FAU’s bowl win over Toledo. Sports Illustrated rates him the 79th best player in the country. An NFL future is in the offing.

QB?  Coach Lane Kiffin is keeping that a secret. It will either be Florida State transfer No. 14 DeAndre Johnson or Oklahoma transfer No. 2 Chris Robison.

FAU’s strategy:  The Owl’s offense revolves around an isolation run play up the middle that was key to Baylor’s  attack under Art Briles If the Sooners can’t handle it with their front six on defense, you can see FAU running the same play over and over until Mike Stoops adjusts. That will then open the door for FAU to throw the ball on big plays off of run-pass options,

For Oklahoma:

No. 1 QB Kyler Murray. Will make his second start at Oklahoma (he started against West Virginia last year due to a series suspension of Baker Mayfield). He started three games as a true freshman at Texas A&M before transferring. Look for speed.

No.9 LB Kenneth Murray. 6’2″, 238 pounds. Sophomore. A key player if the defense is to improve this season.

Kyler Murray

OU’s strategy: Run Rodney Anderson behind a seasoned offensive line that should control the line of scrimmage.

Soonerguys Prediction:

OU 35  FAU 24
