OU vs Texas — Stoops’ chance to regain faith of the fans

by

Bob Stoops avoided his first 1-3 start last Saturday against TCU. Just barely. The Sooners took a 25 point lead into the fourth quarter and had to hold on for dear life as the Horned Frogs scored 22 points in the last quarter against only 3 points for Oklahoma.

Are you kidding me? Is nothing going to be easy this year? Stupid question I guess. When we had to settle for a field goal our last possession giving the ball back to TCU with over two minutes left and only a 6 point lead I thought we were toast.

davesworrymeterlogoAfter watching what they did to our defense over the last quarter, I was chalking this one up as another loss.

But credit where credit is due, the defense was able to stiffen up and seal the deal. And also credit to Bob Stoops for arguing that grounding call. Probably won the game.

So it was a successful start to Big 12 play no matter how ugly. Now we are in texas week.

texas….man I hate those bastards.

Unfortunately Bob now has a texas problem. The Sooners have lost two out of the last three against the longhorns and really should have lost all three truth be told. And in all three games OU has been the favorites. In some cases very big favorites.

If any Oklahoma coach ever wanted to regain the faith of the fans, it’s by beating texas

Once again the longhorns enter Saturday as the underdog. So one could say that texas has us right where they want us.

The longhorns are on a two game losing streak after beating Notre Dame, a win that we now know not to be very impressive. Charlie Strong’s job is again in the balance.

This all lines up great for texas. They will be playing to save their coaches job, just like last year. They have nothing to lose. And they actually have a better offense than last year.

Buechele can throw the deep ball with accuracy. Something the horns didn’t have last year. And the Sooners back end defense has not inspired confidence as of late.

And if for some reason that isn’t working out for them, they can just bring in Swoopes and the QB run game. Because a mobile QB never gives a Mike Stoops defense problems….

I do think the texas defense has taken a step back. So I expect this to be a high scoring game with each team reaching at least the 40 point range. The team that runs the ball effectively and gets turnovers wins. So this game will mostly be on the shoulders of the offense. Serve up a steady diet of Mixon and Perine and then throw it downfield to Westbrook. Much like the TCU game plan. The first three quarters of it anyway.

Now not that Stoops is in any way on the hot seat with the administration, but if any Oklahoma coach ever wanted to regain the faith of the fans, it’s by beating texas.

Can Bob solve his texas problem at the Cotton Bowl this Saturday? We will see soon enough. So the Worry Meter is in red at 95% as this game scares the hell out of me because, you know, it’s OU vs texas. And I hate those bastards.

With all that being said… BOOMER!!!
