Dave: Moving past pooooor texas…sights set on a playoff (with a defense this time)

by

The tears of longhorn fans are so thick and rich you can drizzle them like syrup on pancakes.

And the OU defense ate them up and licked the plate.

Too much? I think we can finally say that the Oklahoma defense is vastly improved from last year and the last several years for that matter.  I heard some stats on the radio that puts them ranked 41st nationally in total defense after the texas game.

If memory serves, last year’s defense was ranked in the 100’s.

The defense was a big reason why we won the game.  On a day that Jalen did not play his best, the defense was there to make up for a less than stellar (by Oklahoma’s standards) offensive performance.

Look at it this way. Last year Kyler Murray lost a fumble and threw an interception.  OU lost the game.

This year Jalen Hurts lost a fumble and threw an interception. But OU wins in a dominating fashion that was way more impressive than the 34-27 score would indicate.

Can you imagine if the Sooners had the 41st ranked defense going into the last two College Football Playoffs?

Of course we will never know, but I would bet Oklahoma would have their 8th and possible 9th National Title in the trophy case.

Hopefully the improvement just keeps getting better and we get another shot at the ring this year.

Another rooster kick-off awaits the Sooners this Saturday morning (11 am in Norman) against the West Virginia Mountaineers

No Dana Holgorsen and no Will Grier this time around. This game should be put away by half time.

The new coach is in the middle of a re-build and starting QB Austin Kendell (remember him Sooner fans?) is questionable to play due to injury

So the Sooners might have to game plan for multiple QB’s, but it really shouldn’t be an issue. The only thing that might give me pause is the taped up throwing hand of Jalen Hurts in the post texas locker room. Let’s hope that isn’t a serious issue.

So the Worry Meter is only at 20% this week. Should be an easy one on the way to bigger and better things.

With all that being said…BOOMER!!!
