Dave: Sooners must win out to get into college football playoffs

by

So far the teams Oklahoma have played have a combined record of 3 wins and 9 losses.

Not exactly a murderer’s row of competition. But you play who is scheduled. In years past Houston and UCLA would have been marquee games.  That’s what happens when you have to schedule teams 5 and 10 years out at a time.

It hasn’t helped our strength of schedule. And thus a one loss Oklahoma team will have a much harder time making the College Football Playoff this time around.  There really is no room for error.

The Sooners will most likely have to go undefeated to be in the final four again.

Anyway, the Big 12 season begins this Saturday morning in the first of three straight rooster kick-offs against the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Norman.

Tech has always had the offense to hang with OU, but not so much this year. They’re down to their second string quarterback and are coming off a horrid game against Arizona in which they only scored 14 points.

Maybe the Arizona Cardinals weren’t so foolish in hiring Kingsbury.  His absence is sure being felt in Lubbock right about now, at least offensively.

The Sooners really shouldn’t have much trouble in this match up.

It might be close early, but all signs lead to another OU route. It should be an opportunity to keep getting better and clean up mistakes that could cost us dearly against heavier competition down the road.

So, the Worry Meter is only at 25% this week. Win and move on. Hopefully to another spot in the CFP. With all that being said….BOOMER!!!
