Game activities set for Texas Tech game day

by

Statue unveilings, senior class recognition, a reunion for Oklahoma’s first two national championship teams and the celebration of long-time announcer Bob Barry are all part of the festivities planned around this Saturday’s OU-Texas Tech football game, the home finale for the Sooners. The game is slated for a 2:30 p.m., kickoff.

At 12:30 p.m., statues of former Oklahoma coaching greats Bennie Owen and Bud Wilkinson will be unveiled near the Wilkinson Dormitory on Jenkins Ave. The ceremony is free and open to the public.

Owen’s daughter, Dorothy Ann Owen Bryan, is one of 45 Owen family members who will be in attendance.

Several of Wilkinson’s family members, including his son Jay, and players also are expected to attend.

Sooners miss chances in 33-19 loss at A&M

This was a game of missed opportunities.

A strategy change toward running the ball gave Oklahoma some hope in the second half, but the fourth quarter jinx that has plagued the Sooners all season returned for a 33-19 loss to Texas A&M.

The Aggies won over the Sooners for the first time since 2002. Oklahoma drops to 7-2 overall and 3-2 in conference.

The Sooners dug a hole to crawl out of in the first half, starting out the game with a safety caused by a high snap over Landry Jones’ head and then trailing 12-0 at halftime.

“We started off the game in a horrible way,” Coach Bob Stoops said after the game.

It didn’t get much better afterward.

Murray sets TD record in 52-0 rout of Cyclones

DeMarco Murray tightly tucked the ball under his arm as he trotted off the field. He had just secured a position atop an impressive list of Sooner running backs — setting the new school record for most touchdowns by an Oklahoma player.

Murray had scored his 58th career touchdown, coming during the Sooners’ 52-0 rout of Iowa State on Saturday night on Owen Field.

“I kept that one,” Murray said. “Coach (Bob) Stoops will let me keep that one.”

The game was a tuneup after a bye week and came the week before what has turned out to me a big showdown in Big 12 Conference when the undefeated No. 6 Sooners travel to Columbia, Missouri to play the No. 21 Tigers on a country-wide ABC telecast next Saturday night (7 pm CT).
Murray ran for 112 yards and two touchdowns and scored on a 15-yard screen pass to surpass 1969 Heisman Trophy winner Steve Owens’ record of 57 touchdowns in his career.
