Dave is cautiously optimistic, but watch out for WVU

The win last Saturday over Louisiana-Monroe was a really good start to what may be a resurgence in Oklahoma football.

I know it sounds funny that a program who won a share of the Big XII Championship last year needs a resurgence, but it does. With a program like Oklahoma you are expected to compete for a National Title almost every year. Not just a league title. League titles should almost be a given.

But since the 2008 National Title game OU has not been a factor in the National Title discussion, at least not deep into the year. They fell into complacency in many areas. Student leaders of the Pride of Oklahoma marching band were called into OU President David Boren’s office to discuss changes being made by newly-hired director Justin Stolarik, the Oklahoma Daily student newspaper reported Wednesday.

Musicians in the Pride told the Oklahoma Daily that Boren told them their frustrations with changes were not matched by their fans, even though Stolarik’s changes have been a hot topic on football message boards and on the Facebook page of Pride alumni.

Norman is still all abuzz after Thursday’s announcement that Trevor Knight will start at quarterback. The news came as no surprise to Soonerguy Hunter, who has been hangin’ with some OU players who have lauded Knight for his summer workout performance.

mikesblogNow the debate is over Knight’s new-found nickname. As in, what should it be?

White Knight, All Knight, Knightmare, Crimson Knight, or Cleavor Trevor? Offensive lineman Bronson Irwin has reportedly already named him Knight Rider. One thing for sure, we’ll be hearing a lot of Bob Seger’s song, Night Moves, this season.

Meanwhile, radio pundit Jim Traber was up in arms this week that Sooner coaches compared Knight to Heisman winner Johnny Manziel. That comparison was taken out of context, in that it was in response to a question about Knight’s style, not his proven ability.
