The Soonerguys founder predicted a loss in our game against Tennessee. Had that happened it would have broken a long standing winning streak dating back to January 1, 1968.

This was the era when you still had to be good to play in a bowl game, and really good to play on New Years Day. Second ranked Tennessee met No. 3 Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl. It was Chuck Fairbanks’ first year as head coach, Steve Owens’ first year at running back and Bobby Warmack’s second year quarterbacking the team. Tennessee was favored.

Tennessee coach lectures Striker for post-game celebration

The war of words that has dominated the lead-up to Tennessee versus Oklahoma continued Saturday after the Vols’ 31-24 loss in double overtime at Neyland Stadium.

According to an account in the Tulsa World, Jones pulled Sooners senior linebacker Eric Striker aside during their postgame celebration and said, “You’re a helluva player, but have some damn class.”

“I just shrugged it off,” Striker told reporters after the game.

Striker told reporters he didn’t say anything back.

“I didn’t see what was so classless about that,” Striker said. “I’m just a passionate competitor. We win and I’m gonna stick my chest out a little bit. I wasn’t trying to be classless, I didn’t think that there was something wrong with that.”
