Bevo IV dies at age 13 of cancer

by

Bevo died Friday. The Longhorn mascot of the Texas Longhorns was 13.

The steer died at the ranch where he lived. He had been retired earlier in the week after his diagnosis and had not made the trip to the Cotton Bowl the previous weekend for the annual OU-Texas game.

“He was so big and strong, but he had such a sweet personality and a gentle soul,” said Ricky Brennes, executive director of the Silver Spurs, the mascot’s handlers and caretakers. The Silver Spurs had announced Oct. 7 that the steer had been stricken with a life-threatening condition.

Angry Oklahoma team destroys K-State 55-0

by

Sooner fans weren’t too happy after last week’s loss to Texas. But, it was the Sooner team that took their anger out on the K-State Wildcats, 55-0, in Manhattan on Saturday.

Looking nothing like the Oklahoma of October 10, which lost to Texas, this Oklahoma team had 14-0 lead before Kansas State got even a first down. QB Baker Mayfield went on to a 282-yard five-touchdown performance. He completed his first seven passes (two of which were for touchdowns). Mayfield finished 20 of 27 passing and appeared to be in control. The O-line played better. It gave Mayfield time to complete passes to 12 different Oklahoma receivers.

All this happened after a rough night in the friendly skies (or rather, tarmac). The team plane was delayed at Will Rogers World Airport on Friday night due to mechanical problems and did not arrive in Manhattan until 12:15 a.m. The team had a 9:15 a.m. wakeup. But there was no sign of fatigue. K-State fans soon hoped the plane couldn’t depart Manhattan fast enough.

The Sooner defense was also strong. They held Kansas State to 5-of-22 passing for only 45 yards. Zack Sanchez had two interceptions (including a pick-six for a score, the third of his career, which ties a school record). Jordan Thomas added an interception.
