Playoff rankings are hooey, Big 12 chances riding on the Sooners in Waco

by

The Sooners did what they needed to do against the Cyclones last Saturday night. Despite a lackluster 2nd quarter they torched Iowa St. 52-16. The offensive hummed along and the defense was stout.

Now we move on to bigger and hopefully better things.

But before we do, let me share a few thoughts I have about the week two Playoff Committee Rankings. What a load of horsesh!t. Look, I realize the rankings mean nothing until the final week, but some of the stuff coming out of this committee is just laughable.

And while it is very rare for me to say anything in defense of our little brother pokie state, they are getting the shaft. They have a better win than any win from Stanford, Iowa, Notre Dame or Baylor. And all those teams are ranked ahead of them. And two of them have LOST already. osu is UNDEFEATED.

And if that wasn’t crazy enough, this is what the committee chairman Jeff Long said when asked if Stanford’s high ranking was because they were being given somewhat of a pass on their loss to Northwestern because it was played at 9am Pacific Time. “Absolutely,” Long said. “Yeah, I think that it’s a significant thing.”…..What the actually f$&k!!!

Sooners scorch Cyclones 52-16, and now the tough tour begins

by

The really hard games begin next week.

But first the Sooners dispatched Iowa State, 52-16 in a game that saw Oklahoma come out strong, then go to sleep in the second quarter, and then end the game like gang-busters.

Baker Mayfield threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for another.

The Sooners, ranked 15th in the first College Football Playoff poll, finish the season with No. 6 Baylor, No. 8 TCU and No. 14 Oklahoma State.

OU jumped out to a 21-3 lead, but were held scoreless in the second quarter, allowing Iowa State to trim into the margin with a pair of field goals.

But the Sooners scored on their first five second-half possessions to blow out the Cyclones. Both Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon had touchdown runs in the second half.

Trevor Knight, on in relief of Mayfield, threw a 55-yard touchdown to Mark Andrews.
