Sooners vs Green Wave

A much anticipated 2021 OU football season starts Saturday in unorthodox fashion — a game moved by a hurricane to a partially filled Memorial Stadium during a pandemic that has fans wondering if attending is a health risk best avoided by watching it all on a living room TV.

All of that still hasn’t dampened the usual enthusiasm that marks a season beginning. This week is the most exciting part of college football. All teams are undefeated. Until this weekend, anyway.

Baylor ended up being a very frustrating game to watch.

The offense was not its usual self after having only scored 10 points in the first half and 27 overall, breaking a 60 game streak of scoring at least 28 points.

The bright spot of course was that the defense shut the Bears out in the first half and, after a garbage touchdown with less than a minute left, gave up only 14 points total.

The defense actually only gave up one or two big plays. And they held the Bears to 25 yards rushing.

So it was the defense that kept the game in control while the offense sputtered. How often have we been able to say that in the past several years?
