Dave: Let’s end the ‘what if’ game

by

I have an idea.  Let’s have instant replay after every play.

Have the booth review every camera angle of every part of every snap.  Make sure there are no rule infractions, and everything is fair and square and by the book.

On average there are 180 total plays in a college football game.  The average review takes two minutes.  However, that is only looking at a specific aspect of a play.  If they had to review all the camera angles just looking for infractions from every player, it would take considerably longer.

For sake of argument, let’s just double the average time to four minutes per review.  Doing the math, that would be 12 hours of replay review.  Add that to the average length of a college football game, which is about 3 hours and 30 minutes, we get a game that lasts 15 hours and 30 minutes.

Talk about let’s make a day of it.

I wonder if that would satisfy Auburn fans after the wailing and gnashing of teeth they did following their loss to the Sooners?

Sooners go 4-0 with 24-17 slugfest win over Auburn

Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer resurrected a floundering offense for a late fourth quarter come-from-behind 75-yard touchdown drive and a tenacious Sooner defense scored a safety on its school record 10th quarterback sack of the game in Oklahoma’s 24-17 slugfest win over Auburn.

The Sooners go 4-0 for the season, likely meaning they will be undefeated in early October entering the Red River Shootout against Texas.

Mateer completed 24 of 36 passes for 271 yards for one touchdown and he ran for one touchdown. He completed 16 of his last 17 passes in the game.

His 9-yard go ahead touchdown run with 4:54 left in the game turned out to be the winning score, but it was the OU defense’s control of Auburn QB Jackson Arnold, who was pitted against his former team, that was the story for most of the game.

Pass rusher R Mason Thomas, who had to sit out the first half because of a targeting infraction the week before, sacked Arnold to sealed it. He also sacked Arnold in his first play of the second half.

Dave: Time to learn if OU is legit’ SEC threat

by

The Sooners did what they were supposed to do last Saturday morning when they dominated outmatched Temple to the tune of 42-3.

With the Owls gaining just over 100 yards against a swarming Oklahoma defense, they never stood a chance. Mateer continued his torrid pace with another 282 yards passing and a touchdown along with a
51-yard rushing touchdown.

The running game was churning with 228 total yards highlighted by Tory Blaylock gaining 100 yards at over 7 yards a clip. However, there were a couple of concerns that came out of this game which will directly affect the upcoming contest with Auburn.

R. Mason Thomas will miss the first half Saturday, due to a targeting penalty against the Owl’s quarterback. The other being the injury suffered by Keontez Lewis.
