Dave: Trust in Venables — Sooners gain confidence with each win

by

On October 15th the Sooners beat Kansas in Norman.  After a bye week the Sooners then beat Iowa State on October 29th.  That my friends constitutes a winning streak.

Although the streak came against a couple of teams that are ranked in the bottom half of the Big 12 standings, we will take it.

Because unfortunately the Sooners are in the bottom half right now as well.

But a win on the road is always a good win no matter who the team.  Even though Iowa State has a very questionable offense, their defense was stout and gave OU fits.

Dave: OU offense to be put to the test in Ames

We figured out at least one thing from the win against the Kansas Jayhawks a week ago Saturday.  Dillion Gabriel is by far and away the MVP of this team.

Zero points against the shorthorns without Gabriel, 52 against Kansas with him.

And that wasn’t because the texas defense are world beaters.  Far from it.  It’s just that our back up QB situation is really that bad right now.

This team will go as far as Dillion and the offense will take them because the defense is still very much a work in progress.

Now I guess we know how it felt to be texas fans when OU was handing them 65-13 and 63-14 beat downs.

But at the very least we can take solace in the fact that we are NOT, in fact, actual texas fans.

I can’t imagine…  It’s pretty thin times for Oklahoma Football right now.  In some ways historically thin.

But I am sure you have heard all the stats and streaks that have been broken or started during the last three games.  No real need to re-hash it all here.  There’s no sugar coating it.  We are just a bad football team right now.

I do think that Brent, given time, will get it turned around.  It just depends on if Joe C. will give him that time.  I mean John Blake got three years.

But that was almost 25 years ago.  College football is much different now.  The money is fatter and the patience is thinner.

I think Joe will do the right thing and give Brent the time he needs.  However there needs to be visible improvement pretty quickly.  Like this year.
