Perine out, Mixon banged up — Iowa State on Thursday looks like a trap game to me

by

davesworrymeterlogoThe defense bounced back very nicely against Kansas Saturday night.

I know it’s Kansas, but to hold any team under 200 yards of offense and 3 points is nothing to sneeze at.

But again, it was Kansas. So we can’t start thinking the defense is back just yet. The offense was again sharp and Westbrook is fast becoming one of the best receivers in OU history. If he keeps it up, he should at least be invited to New York for the Heisman ceremonies.westbrook

Things get serious again in a short turnaround as the Sooners travel to Ames to take on the Iowa State Cyclones this Thursday night.

Don’t let Iowa State’s 1-7 record fool you. They have thrown up some decent games against Big 12 teams this year. They lost to Baylor at home 42-45. And stayed within a possession of the pukes in Stillwater 31-38.

iowastateThe short turn around for a Thursday night game will work in the Cyclone’s favor. Just ask those same pokes about the 2011 Thursday night game they played in Ames. It cost them a shot at the National Title. The Sooners had better be ready for this.

Perine is still out and now Mixon is dinged up makes this a huge trap game.

This is the kind of game teams like Iowa State live for. It saves their season if they can beat OU for only the second time in 55 years. Even if they go 2-10. They can point to a victory over the Sooners, print up t-shirts and live on that glory all off season.

Add in the fact that Perine is still out and now Mixon is dinged up makes this a huge trap game.

As such the Worry Merter is back up to 80% this week. Starting Thursday night, every game left is a playoff game for the Big 12 Title. With all that being said… BOOMER!!!
