Dave: Some of the offense’s woes fall on Riley’s play calling

Just to get this out of the way, the people chanting “we want Caleb” from the student section last Saturday night were either drunk, or don’t really know anything about the game of football.

Probably both.

Rattler has no time to throw the ball deep.  The offensive line is not playing well at all.  In any facet of the game.

And while I can understand that Caleb would give an element of a QB run game, you would be risking injury to the future of the position because Caleb would be running for his life due to the O-lines futility.

Mike: If only we had a fan base of which the football team could be proud

I remember when the only boos heard at Owen Field occurred when the band played the visiting team’s fight song.

And that always seemed perfunctory. A half-hearted, we-gotta-do it, buuu…ewe.

Last night during the OU-West Virginia game, boos came when the Sooners were failing to convert third downs in the second quarter.

More disappointing was a chorus of “We want Caleb”  — a chant I didn’t hear in the stadium, but apparently was nationally broadcast on prime time ABC from a mic’ed up student section of drunken frat boys.

These booing and chanting apparently didn’t notice a Sooners offensive line that was getting whipped by the Mountaineers and causing QB Spencer Rattler to run for his life all night (until the final drive when it counted the most).

A bend-but-not-break Sooner defense kept Oklahoma in the game despite a sputtering offense for most of the contest against West Virginia on Saturday night.

But in the end, QB Spencer Rattler, undaunted by boo birds from the stands, led the Sooners on 54 yard final drive, completing all six pass attempts and placing Oklahoma in position to line locler Gabe Brkic up for the game-winning field goal.

Like most everyone in the stadium expected, Brkic hit the 30 yarder.

And Oklahoma won 16-13.
