No worries this week, Sooners should roll over Cyclones

by

Not much to be said about the Kansas game. The Sooners took care of business as they were expected to do.

Unfortunately they couldn’t keep away from the injury bug as Alvarez went down and is doubtful for the Iowa State game. Zanchez is also listed as doubtful for Saturday.

However Stoops said that Bond and Evans have a good chance to play against the Cyclones. But why not rest them against Iowa State to make sure they are ready for Baylor? We shouldn’t need any of them to take care of the Clones.

And this is where I might stray from some of the talking heads about Saturday night’s game at Owen Field. After Iowa State shut out texas 24-0 this past Saturday, everyone started to talk about how the Sooners need to be weary of Iowa State. They are a good team that beat texas and after all, the longhorns beat OU. So the Sooners are going to have a fight on their hands? Bull.

If the Sooners don’t beat them by at least 21 points I will be disappointed. They are not a good team. Usually you are what your record says you are. They are 3-5 with wins over Northern Iowa, Kansas and texas.

Team getting worse, no more excuses for Sooners

by

Several things came to mind while watching the debacle in Waco last Thursday night.

Foremost was what a waste of a spectacular defensive effort. I know it sounds strange to say that when Baylor scored 41 points. But I am convinced that if the Sooner offense had even remotely put up some sort of fight in that game, Baylor probably only scores in the twenties and OU has a great chance to win.

As it was, the offense was spectacularly inept. At this point in the season a performance like that is just mind boggling. This team has no offensive identity whatsoever. And there is plenty of blame to go around but it has to start at the top.

Bob Stoops has to be the one to answer for this. I know everyone is bashing Bell and Heupel, but ultimately I believe they are doing their jobs to the best of their ability. And if this is the best they can do, then Stoops has to make a change.

Does anyone bashing Bell and Heupel really think that those two guys are going to come out and say “Hey, I realize I’m not getting the job done so I’m going to step down for the the good of the team.” ? No.

Clay shines, Sooners win 35-20 over ISU

It was the Brennan Clay show. No, the Justin Brown show. No, the Kenny Stills show. No, the Tony Jefferson show.

No matter who gets the credit, the Sooners got back on the winning track, outplaying the always fiesty Iowa State Cyclones 35-20 in Ames.

Oklahoma has never lost to Iowa State in eight games under Coach Bob Stoops. Stoops tied Bud Wilkinson’s win record and is now 12 wins away from Barry Switzer’s 157-win mark.

QB Landry Jones overcame two first-half interceptions, finishing 32 of 45 for a season high of 405 yards and four touchdowns.

As Stoops said after the game, the play of Clay was huge. The Sooners worked hard to establish the run game, and thanks to Clay’s 24 carries and 157 yards, they did just that, wearing the Cyclones defense down with a total 85 offensive plays.
