Bedlam begins 3-game playoff for the Sooners, worry meter spiking

DAVES-LOGO-copyIf you ever needed a reminder of how important a good quarterback is to a football team, the 2nd half of the TCU game was it. (By the way, a big thank you for going for two coach Patterson. You saved our bacon).

Look, I really like Trevor Knight. From all accounts he is a great guy and a team leader. Heck, he was elected a team captain and he doesn’t even start.

But how is it he can be so ineffective after being on this team for three years? I mean he still throws balls in the dirt. He was unable to move the offense against the Horned Frogs and if not for a long touchdown run by Perine, the Sooners lose that game. Lincoln Riley might have some blame in this as he himself said he got too conservative and didn’t let Knight run the offense like he should have.

This is basically the start of a three game playoff for the Sooners. How could they not be ready?

But it’s mostly that Knight, for whatever reason, is just not a good quarterback. He had one amazing game in the Sugar Bowl and for that Sooner fans should be very grateful. But if Mayfield is out, the Sooners are in trouble.

However, luckily it looks like Baker should be fine for the upcoming Bedlam battle that will be for the Big 12 Championship and a likely birth in the final four. This one is anyone’s game. The spread started with the Sooners being a 2 point favorite. It’s up to 6 ½ points. Money is coming in on OU. Not sure why that is.

This game will be close and the Cowboys have the advantage of playing at home. We were favored last year and look what happened. The Pokies won’t admit it, but this game is always their Super Bowl. It’s little brother syndrome. You always want to beat big brother. So they will be pumped up to beat the Sooners which will give them an outside shot at winning the Big 12 if they get help.

2e8a2d6e038f5515fa9eda8fc47f9e46The Sooners shouldn’t have any trouble being pumped themselves. Everything is in front of them for the taking. This is basically the start of a three game playoff for the Sooners. How could they not be ready? On paper, OU wins the game. They have a much more balanced offense. The Cowboys can’t run the ball and usually that spells trouble. But the pokies make up for that with a potent passing game and a quarterback run package when Walsh comes in.

Defensively I think the two teams are very close with a slight edge to the Sooners. I think it will all come down to if the Sooners can hold up in the secondary. If they can, the Big 12 Title is theirs. So much is on the line.

As such the Worry Meter is redlining at 95% this week. With all that being said…BOOMER!!!.

(P.S. I take back everything I said about the playoff committee. Now that OU is ranked #3, I now suddenly realize they are doing a fine job!).
