Dave: Bring on the SEC, but worry meter jumps

To me the win against Tulsa was very impressive. That could have been a huge trap game. On the road against a big underdog. Bad weather. The game before the big bad SEC comes to Norman.

OU could have really struggled to get up for that game. But they took to the field in a business like manner and they, well…took care of business.

The offense didn’t miss a beat scoring touchdowns on three of their first four possessions. And the defense continued to dominate in all phases and limited Tulsa to 7 points and just over 300 yards of offense. Most of it in garbage time.

Trevor continues to improve with every game and the Belldozer got the first touchdown reception of his career to become one of just a handful of Sooners who have passed for, rushed for and caught a touchdown. It was just a very impressive performance, as it was supposed to be.

And now, as I stated earlier, the big bad SEC rolls into Norman in the form of the Tennessee Volunteers.

I can’t begin to tell you how sick I am of this whole Stoops vs the SEC that has been so overblown by the media. All he ever did was give his opinion about the way the media has spun the supposed dominance of the SEC.

And he was right. The SEC is a very top heavy conference that has it’s share of terrible teams at the bottom. He was just trying to point out that the perception that every team in the SEC are world beaters just isn’t true.

You would have thought he drowned a litter of puppies. After it was announced that OU and Alabama would play in the Sugar Bowl, you couldn’t go a day without someone on E-spin bringing it up.

You would have thought the beat down OU put on the Tide would have shut a few people up, but of course that didn’t happen. Not after Saban started the ball rolling on the whole, “it was hard to get the team to prepare for a game that wasn’t for the National title” bull crap.

Oklahoma played well against their first two opponents. But this is a step up in the quality of the competition. Tennessee will be able to match our speed and athleticism. Add to this the whole SEC vs. Stoops distraction and this contest scares me.

Now with the Volunteers coming in Saturday, it’s being re-hashed yet again. In case anyone hasn’t notice, Bob hasn’t said anything else about it unless he has to answer a question from the media. And he finally said in a press conference he was done answering questions about all that crap and he was just focused on Tennessee. The media, especially E-spin, are the ones beating this dead horse. And you know what? Even if the Sooners beat Tennessee by 50 points all we will hear is that Tennessee wasn’t very good this year and the SEC is still the best conference in the history of football.

Not an easy game

Now I hope we do thrash the Volunteers, but I am worried about this game. Tennessee isn’t one of the SEC cellar dwellers anymore. They have recruited great athletes and finally have a coach (Butch Jones) that knows what he is doing.

We are catching them young. But this will not be an easy game. There are too many people that are going around saying the Sooners are going to kill the Volunteers and it won’t even be close. I hope the coaches aren’t letting the players buy into this.

We will have to play our A game to come out of this with a victory. I believe we will. But this will be a nerve wracking game to watch as I think it won’t be decided until the fourth quarter.

As such the Worry Meter is at 75% this week. With all that being said….BOOMER!!!
