OU Freshman defensive back Steven Parker, a high school All-America from Jenks, will probably not play in the opener against Louisiana Tech on August 30.

Not because he isn’t good enough. Rather ,because he got arrested on June 22 by one of Norman’s finest for public intoxication.

Within hours Parker took to Twitter to apologize:

“Sorry to everybody who trusted in me…I will bounce back from this and be somebody who is much better. Mistakes happen, but that’s no excuse,” Parker wrote.

According to a Norman Police affidavit filed to Cleveland County Municipal Court, an NPD officer noticed the 18-year-old Parker passed out next to the driver’s side of a car around 1:15 a.m. Sunday in a central Norman neighborhood.

No, it wasn’t in front of our house.

Parker is expected to compete for playing time in the secondary this fall. The university, of course, said the matter was being handled internally and would not comment.
