Dave unusually optimistic about beating Red Raiders

by

davesworrymeterlogoI was in the stands at the Kansas game and a few things have become clear to me.

First, any win we get from here on out is just going to be ugly.  No getting around that.

And second, the defense is carrying it’s weight.

The offense?   Well, I don’t know what the offense is carrying.

It was nice to see at least some creativity in the passing game with the reverse throw by Bester for a touchdown in the second quarter.  However it is a little ironic that the best pass of the day was by one of our wide receivers.

Once the defense made adjustments after giving up 13 points, they held Kansas to something like 38 total yards the rest of the way.  Yes it’s Kansas, but still impressive.

The offense on the other hand is still struggling.  The lack of any downfield passing game is making it harder and harder to put points on the board.  Defenses are crowding the box and daring OU to throw downfield.

It’s actually pretty impressive that the run game has been as successful as it has been.  But they have to find a way to hit at least a few deep balls to keep pressure off the ground attack.

TXTECHAnyway, a win is a win and the team now gets ready for undefeated Texas Tech Saturday afternoon at Owen Field.

I’m not convinced Tech is all that.  Several teams would be undefeated if they had played Tech’s schedule so far.  And had the referees not interfered, the Red Raiders would have lost to TCU in Lubbock.

That’s not to say OU wins this game easily.  In fact the Sooners might have to play their best game of the year to pull out a victory.  But for some reason I have an oddly confident feeling about this game.

I know that’s out of character for me, but outside of the 2011 debacle, the Sooners have handled Tech in Norman.  And that’s when Tech has brought much better teams to town.

Of course my confidence will probably be down to zero by game day, but for now the Worry Meter is only at 50%.

If the Sooners can keep the offense on the field and hit just a few deep balls, we’ll be jumping around again this Saturday.  With all that being said….BOOMER!!!  Dave
