Sooners licking wounds, KU game first step to regroup

That one hurt.  And the most frustrating part about it was it didn’t look like the Sooners wanted it enough.

Last week I said they needed to come into this game with more fight and more intensity than they have had all year.  They were no where close to that.  And I blame the coaches.

Everything we heard from everybody all week was how OU would blow out texas for a third straight year.  It wouldn’t be close.  texas stinks and the Sooners would wipe the floor with them.

I guess the coaches let the players believe that and believed it themselves.  They thought they could show up with the word Sooners on their chest and it would be easy.  They thought they were entitled to the win.  They thought they could run the offense they wanted to run regardless and they would win.

It was just a complete lack of imagination in the offensive game plan and no adjustments to what the defense was giving.  Are our coaches that stubborn, or are they not capable of more creativity?

How else do you explain the complete lack of QB running game?  Against a texas squad that has been gashed by the QB run game all year?

Even if Bell couldn’t make it happen with his feet, put in Trevor Knight for at least a series or two to pressure the edges.  But when asked about that after the game Heupel said he never considered putting Knight in.  What did they have to lose?

I don’t know.  But that was the worst performance against texas by a Bob Stoops coached team.  Stoops has never been outcoached by Mack Brown.  When Stoops has lost to texas in the past, it was because texas had the better players.  Not last Saturday.  The texas staff out coached the OU staff.  And that should not happen.

The coaches get paid too much for that to happen.  I know it’s impossible for a team to be up for every game.  That’s why you have a Tulsa or Louisiana Monroe on the schedule.  You don’t have to bring your A game to beat teams like that.

But there is no excuse for not being ready to play texas.  Your arch rival.  None.

Now that all that talk about contending for a national title is over, OU needs to regroup and move forward.

kansasFirst step is against Kansas in Lawrence this Saturday.

This should be a relatively easy win.  I realize that Kansas hung with TCU.  But the Horned Frogs coughed the ball up five times, and still won by double digits.  I think that the Jayhawks are getting better, but they don’t have the manpower to pull an upset.

That doesn’t mean the Sooners won’t have to work for it.  And I really hope that if something isn’t working, they decide to turn the page in the playbook.  But they probably won’t need too.

That’s why the worry meter is at a season low 25%.  If this game is in doubt in the fourth quarter, OU has some serious problems.

With all that being said…BOOMER!!
